Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be appointed as retained recruitment partner to Relate as they seek to hire a Director of Corporate Services to be based from their offices in Doncaster. Relate is the UK’s largest provider of relationship support. They believe strong and healthy relationships underpin the strength and cohesion of communities and although they are best known for their counselling services, today Relate is much, much more.

Relate is a federated charity with a national ‘umbrella’ organisation overseeing and supporting a network of local federated Centres, which operate as individual charities delivering services across England and Wales. In the last couple of years, around one-third of the federated Centres have joined the national charity and their combined activities now make up the central Services Delivery function.

This national charity is a substantial organisation with a turnover of ca. £10 million, more than 500 staff (FTE ca. 160), services delivered from approximately 200 sites throughout England and Wales and 11 shops across England.

The Director of Corporate Services is a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), reporting directly to the Chief Executive. The primary focus of this role is to develop and maintain fit for purpose systems, procedures and processes in the areas of Finance, HR, IT and administration – all within the context of the Relate Federation as a whole. The Director of Corporate Services will also fulfil the Company Secretary responsibilities for the charity and oversee the operation in the Doncaster office.

The Director of Corporate Services will build upon the work that has been to done to create fit for purpose systems, procedures and processes in the areas of financial management, HR, IT and administration. Whilst each of these are at different stages of reaching ‘business as usual’ positions, the general situation is one that is not ‘steady state’ and not yet serving the needs of the organisation sufficiently well. One of the crucial success criteria for this role will be a marked improvement in the availability, quality and timeliness of management information to enable the Board and Executive Leadership Team to make and implement decisions based on data that is both accurate and up to date. The Director of Corporate Services will also play the leading role in defining, building and implementing the various ‘back office’ systems and processes that are essential to the success of the central Services Delivery function.

This will be a challenging, varied and most importantly rewarding job role and presents a rare opportunity to become available on the local market. Although we are open to applicants from any professional background, we feel this role would best suit an individual with a finance qualification (ACA/CIMA/ACCA) who has demonstrable experience operating as part of a management team and can provide examples of driving through change and process improvement within an organisation/business.
