Job Description

Parkinson Lee Executive Search, part of the Elevation Recruitment Group, are the retained partner to Aegeus Industries in the appointment of a Group Finance Director (Group FD).

Aegeus Industries (trading as Spooner Industries and Dowson Food Machinery), is a Privately Owned £30m turnover Group that specializes in the manufacture of Processing Equipment and Food Machinery, suppling to large end users on an international and domestic basis.

Spooner Industries represents circa 80% of group turnover; providing custom designed solutions around the world for the principle market sectors of food, paper, non-wovens, metals, converting and environmental. Since 1932, Spooner Industries has been a leading innovator in air movement and heat transfer technology. Engineering industrial process machinery such as tunnel ovens, air flotation dryers, coolers, provers, air turns, stabilisers, oxidiser, solvent recovery systems, energy and heat recovery equipment.

Dowson Food Machinery was established in 1983 under the skilled entrepreneurship of founder John Murgatroyd, and quickly became established as providing quality British engineering solutions to complex bakery challenges. Dowson Food Machinery supplies bespoke equipment and service to many of the leading UK bakery groups in addition to smaller independent and artisan bakeries. In addition to supplying to the UK, Dowson Food machinery also exports specially designed machines around the world.

Aegeus Industries is currently in a period of transition. A new CEO was appointed 6 months ago to modernize the group and deliver a strategic growth strategy. As part of the Group’s vision, the CEO is now looking to develop a Group Leadership Team, and as such, the opportunity has arisen for a Group FD.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will sit on the Group Board and will be instrumental in the continued success and growth of the Group.

Specifically, you will:

-Oversee all aspects of financial management for the group
-Work closely with the Group CEO and other Executive Stakeholders in the continued successful recovery and growth of the group
-Be responsible for all key external relationships and act as primary point of contact for the following stakeholders:
~Group bankers
~External auditors
~Lawyers as Necessary
~External credit insurance organisations – if necessary
~Insurance brokers
~Financial institutions
-Control the costs on all customer projects to ensure the margin is protected, and that projects are delivered on time
-Oversee the production of monthly management accounts and providing commentary thereon.
-Oversee and take a lead role in the annual budget preparation process, including the production of the budget model and scenario planning thereon. In addition to the annual process, the individual will be expected to apply the same rigorous approach to the periodic forecasting process.
-Oversee the conduct of the annual audit process and the production of the annual financial statements
-Attend, as a member of the Group Board, the monthly Group board meetings and providing the board with appropriate levels of analysis and explanation as to the performance of the group and its component parts.
-Work closely with the CEO and attend the management meetings of the individual trading subsidiaries and challenging the performance as part of these meetings.
-Closely manage the groups cashflows, working capital facilities and bank position to ensure cashflow is constantly monitored within borrowing limits.
-Act as a key point of contact for suppliers and customers. Able to attend supplier and customer meetings when necessary and behave in such a way as to effectively project the interests of the Group.
-Support the Group’s sales function in order to help it meet its current and future aspirations.
-Provide ad hoc support, both financial and commercial, to both the CEO and other directors in place throughout the Group.
-Ensure that the group meets it’s reporting and compliance requirements in respect of statutory entities, including but not limited to HMRC.
-Lead the annual insurance renewal process and seek to obtain best value from the process.

The successful candidate will have:

-A successful track record within the manufacturing sector (ideally within international experience)
-Strong leadership capability; able to set and execute the strategic vision and direction
-Experience of projects and project costing
-A proven track record as a FD
-Extensive experience and a naturally ability as a trusted business partner to a CEO/MD
-Exceptional communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills – able to confidentially liaise across all areas of the business
