Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to announce their continued relationship with Orchid Orthopedic Solutions, in the recruitment of a Manufacturing Manager to join their busy Forging department.

Established in 2005 (much longer under previous names) and with 11 sites across the Globe, Orchid are a specialist in the design and manufacturer of Orthopedic Medical Devices (joint replacement) using a variety of innovate production processes.
Orchid are very much at the forefront of innovation, and for such a crucial role within the business structure, it is important to get the right blend of both analytical and personable skills in order to achieve maximum results.

The Manufacturing Manager would be responsible for circa 60 people and would deal with all aspects of Manufacturing included (but not limited too) H&S, Quality, Production, Projects, Continuous Improvement, Labour, KPI Management. This role would report directly into the Operations Manager but have full autonomy for the department.

OVERALL PURPOSE
To control and improve all production processes within their department by managing people, time and resources to meet the business targets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The successful introduction of lean manufacturing principles throughout the business
- Supervise and develop Team Leaders by delegating, coaching and managing individuals
- The control, organisation and co-ordination of departments
- Review the production programme to determine manufacturing requirements in terms of manning, capacity and resources
- Ensure that all machines and equipment are maintained in a satisfactory condition to maintain product quality and improve the general environment
- Develop manning plans to achieve the Company’s objectives
- Liaise with Engineering for samples and part development
- Achieve monthly output levels and daily run rates
- Review scrap, non-conformance products and quality problem areas and action to resolve
- Identify key performance monitors (KPIs) for each area on key outputs and display in the appropriate areas
- Introduce effective communication links with Departments
- Instigate disciplinary procedures where necessary
- Identify improvement opportunities and prioritise in order of importance
- Manage manufacturing improvement activities in an open, enthusiastic and positive manner, so as to encourage participation and development of a culture of continuous improvement at all levels
- Support and guide all CI projects using appropriate advanced quality/performance improvement tools
- Continually appraise global technological developments/advances such that they may be exploited to reduce manufacturing costs and improve process/product quality
- Ensure that Syteline runs smoothly in line with other departments, with the timely and accurate input and use of data
- Responsibility for data ownership, blue prints and the updating of quick reference guides

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the Company's quality policy is understood and implemented
- Ensure all Health & Safety rules are adhered to, be aware of fire exits and hazards in departments and maintain a safe environment
- Maintain a clean working environment
- Identify areas for cost reduction and productivity improvements
- Monitor and review subordinates for performance, training and future development
- Recommend new work methods, layouts, processes and equipment to improve performance
- Maintain good time keeping and attendance
- Teamwork - Show a positive attitude to work and others
- Display flexible attitude to work time as required
- Recognise and react to customer expectations

Key Skills / Experience Needed
- Degree Qualified or equivalent qualification within Engineering (HNC, HND etc)
- Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing 35+ staff
- Experience in Forging, Metals or Machining would be advantageous
- Working knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques e.g Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen etc
- A strong analytical skill set with the ability to interpret data
- KPI driven
- A qualification within H&S e.g. NEBOSH or IOSH
