Elevation’s Wicked Bake Off

As all hallows eve came upon us, we thought it would be a spooktacular idea to host a ‘Wicked Bake-Off’ in our offices to raise money for our chosen charity, Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

The excitement screamed through the kitchen as brain cakes coated in jammy blood and marshmallow ghosts were brought in by our bakers. There were fondant spiders, mummy cupcakes and zombie goodies all up for the crown of star baker.

Our resident judges, Director, Fran Leith and Learning and Development Manager, Josh O’Malleywood, tried a slice of every cake; judging them on taste, spookiness and overall star baker.

Aferdita and her red velvet brain and Michelle who baked a ghostly Guinness cake both took the star baker crown.

Simon who whipped up the most delicious cake with a tasty lemon brain. The spookiest cake award went to Joanna with her graveyard cake.

But sadly, there was also the worst cake, Rachel’s eyeball cake left the judges with green faces, we later learned she accidentally put in too much bicarbonate!

After the judging, it was time to dig in. Steve’s flapjack sold out first then Jo’s graveyard cake was snatched up, and by 12:30 most of the cakes had been demolished. Overall, we raised £300 for the Sheffield Children’s hospital.

Sheffield Children’s Hospital is a fantastic charity that provides outstanding support for children who are critically ill. The charity has four dedicated centres for children
across Sheffield.

They recently invested in a special MRI scanner for teddies so that children can understand the process better and are more relaxed when it’s their turn. Back in May the hospital also opened a brand-new cancer centre giving children and young people from across the region high-quality care in a spacious state-of-the-art facility.

The donations go on to fund research to help prevent and cure childhood illnesses, improve facilities and buy specialist equipment for patients.

The Sheffield Children’s Hospital is very close to us. Most of the people at Elevation are parents, who know how vital it is for children to have a safe place to go for treatments.
