Exciting New Hire as Elevation Continues to Grow our Successful Engineering and Manufacturing Division

Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to announce the appointment of Rachel Oldfield, Business Manager for the Skilled Shopfloor department, within the Engineering and Manufacturing division.

With over 20 years of experience in recruitment, Rachel delivers first class account management and has extensive people development and team leadership skills. She prides herself in maintaining long term relationships and offers a consultative service to ensure partnerships continuously develop in line with the ever-changing demands of the manufacturing environment.

Rachel will play a pivotal role in growing the skilled shop floor division across the region and will work with the specialist team to provide a unique solution for our clients, from one off assignments to bespoke high volume campaigns.

Following her appointment, get to know Rachel and why she has joined Elevation below:

Can you give us a whistle stop tour of your career?

I started my working life as a payroll and receptionist and then went on to manage a national food production company. Having spent a couple of years there, I then found my passion in recruitment and joined an agency to manage temporary and permanent staff across commercial and engineering sectors. Whilst in that role, I managed an engineering-based contract with up to 500 semi-skilled and skilled production staff.

I have always been extremely ambitious and have progressed from an administrator to a consultant, then a manager and most recently as a Contracts Manager, before joining Elevation as Business Manager.

I have been a recruitment specialist for over 20 years, and in that time have learned a lot about the engineering and manufacturing industry and established a long-standing network of clients and candidates across the region.

What attracted you to the role at Elevation?

Having worked in manufacturing recruitment for many years, I had heard of Elevation through clients and candidates and subsequently followed their company social channels. They have a great reputation in the engineering and manufacturing sector, which is always important when considering a new role.

When I made the decision to leave my current role, I approached Elevation to see if they had any recruitment opportunities within the business, and at that time John Bohan (Senior Director of Engineering and Manufacturing) was looking for a Business Manager for the Skilled Shop floor department within the division.

I liked that the role of Business Manager was for a specific area within the engineering and manufacturing sector, whereas, previously, I recruited candidates in varying roles and levels. I find I can provide a better service to my clients and candidates within a specialist area.

In three words how would you describe our company on first perception?

Professional, independent, and fun.

What do you enjoy most about working in recruitment as a whole?

I like that no two days are ever the same, working with different companies, roles and candidates keeps my job really interesting. I speak to a diverse group of people every day, which is something I enjoy as a people person.

I enjoy how fast paced recruitment is, especially in the area I work within because my clients need candidates as soon as possible and more frequently, they have a large intake at once. As with every job, it has its challenges, but there is a great deal of satisfaction that comes from successfully delivering for my clients.

I also learn so much about the industry when I go to visit clients at their sites, I get to see how things are made and come together from a component to a complete product, that is always fascinating for me.

What do you enjoy most about recruiting for the Engineering & Manufacturing sector?

I like the candidates that I work with, they are extremely down to earth and just want to provide for their families. They are very honest and open in their job search, which makes the job a little easier because there are usually many different skilled-shop floor roles available that fits for their locations too.

The sector itself is very fast paced, with new developments and technologies coming to light, we as recruiters must adapt to that too and find candidates that are flexible to change and have the relevant skills.

What are you hoping to achieve in your role at Elevation?

I am hoping to develop a Skilled Shop Floor division that has not been considered as a stand-alone and growing sector, until recently. I want to establish and build relationships with clients in the market to so that we can maintain regular business throughout the year, regardless of the slower periods that our clients face.

With hard work, I believe we can become the market leaders within this area of manufacturing and be the go-to agency for many businesses and job seekers in the Yorkshire region.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I really enjoy exercise, getting outside and walking for miles. I like doing home projects, since lockdown, I have re-done every room in my house, which has been really fun. I am also partial to glass of merlot.
