I was born and raised in Hull and, like many people who grow up here, I have always had a strong sense of pride in the city.
Hull is often overlooked when people talk about where to build a career in the North, but that is quickly changing. Over the past decade, the level of investment, the strength of local industries and the number of jobs in Hull have all increased significantly.
For professionals considering relocating, it is not just about finding a new role. It is about long-term opportunity, industry stability, cost of living and quality of life, and Hull offers a strong balance of all four.
Hull has become one of the UK’s key locations for engineering jobs, manufacturing jobs and renewable energy careers.
Its position on the Humber has always supported logistics and trade, but recent investment has transformed the region into a major hub for offshore wind, advanced manufacturing and supply chain operations.
Employers such as Siemens Gamesa, Reckitt, Smith and Nephew and BP, alongside a wide network of regional businesses, continue to create new jobs in Hull across engineering, production, operations and technical roles.
For candidates looking for stability and progression, the Hull job market is stronger than many people expect.
Hull’s economy has evolved significantly and now offers a diverse range of career opportunities across multiple sectors. For professionals considering relocation, this variety creates both immediate job opportunities and long-term career stability.
Renewable energy and offshore wind: Hull sits at the centre of the UK’s Energy Estuary, with major investment in offshore wind. Siemens Gamesa’s blade manufacturing facility has created thousands of jobs across engineering, manufacturing, logistics and supply chain, making this one of the fastest-growing sectors in the region.
Chemicals, pharmaceuticals and life sciences: Hull has a long-established presence in chemicals and life sciences. Global companies such as Reckitt and Smith and Nephew, alongside major operators like BP and INEOS across the Humber, support a wide range of roles in engineering, operations and supply chain.
Manufacturing and food production: Manufacturing remains a core part of the local economy, with businesses producing everything from industrial components to packaging and materials. Food manufacturing is also a major employer, with companies such as Birds Eye, Cranswick and Aunt Bessie’s driving demand for production, engineering and quality roles.
Logistics, ports and maritime industries: The Port of Hull plays a key role in UK trade and supports international supply chains. Alongside traditional shipping and freight, the port now supports offshore wind and renewable energy logistics, creating ongoing demand for logistics, operations and engineering professionals.
Healthcare, education and research: Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the University of Hull are major employers in the region. Alongside healthcare and education roles, there is a growing opportunity in research, innovation and collaboration with industry, particularly in energy and digital sectors.
A city with real momentum: Significant investment in energy, infrastructure and regeneration has created new opportunities across engineering, manufacturing and logistics.
The centre of the UK’s energy transition: Hull sits within the UK’s Energy Estuary, with continued growth in offshore wind and renewable energy creating long-term career opportunities.
