Elevation’s Pathway to Board event on Thursday 14th May brought together ambitious professionals and experienced business leaders for an evening focused on leadership growth, board readiness, and career progression at senior level. Hosted at Archive in Leeds, the event gave attendees the opportunity to hear honest, practical insight from leaders who have successfully navigated their own route to the boardroom.
As part of Elevation Recruitment Group’s growing Pathway series, the event is designed to support professionals looking to secure their first board role or strengthen their impact as senior leaders.
One of the strongest themes from the evening was the importance of adaptability in leadership. The panel spoke openly about how board level responsibilities often extend far beyond technical expertise, requiring leaders to think commercially, communicate clearly, and influence across the wider business.
The discussion explored the realities of stepping into senior leadership positions, including the challenges that come with increased accountability, decision-making, and visibility within an organisation.

Alastair Mayne (CEO at Garolla Garage Doors), Matthew Emmott (CRO at Force24), Richard Hughes (CFO at Netcall), and Paul Nicholson (Fractional CIO/CTO for William Jackson and Aunt Bessie’s) shared open and candid reflections on the decisions, challenges, and opportunities that shaped their careers.
What stood out throughout the evening was the honesty of the discussion. Guests heard real experiences from leaders who have navigated setbacks, career changes, and non linear career paths before reaching board-level positions.
