The Speak Out for Engineering South Yorkshire Heat 2026 took place on 8 April at Sheffield Hallam University, bringing together some of the region’s most promising engineering talent. Elevation Recruitment Group was proud to support the event, with our own Jack Heffren joining the judging panel.
The competition is designed to develop communication skills within engineering, challenging participants to present technical topics in a clear and engaging way. This year’s South Yorkshire heat once again showed the strength of emerging talent across the region.
As a business closely connected to the engineering and manufacturing sector, supporting events like Speak Out for Engineering is a natural fit. Competitions like this give early career engineers the opportunity to build confidence, refine how they communicate ideas, and gain valuable exposure.
Having Jack Heffren on the judging panel reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the next generation of engineers and staying closely aligned with the industry.
The standard of presentations at Sheffield Hallam University was consistently strong. Participants demonstrated not only technical knowledge but also the ability to explain complex ideas in a way that is accessible and engaging.
That balance of technical understanding and communication is becoming increasingly important across engineering roles, particularly as businesses place more value on collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
Jack Heffren’s perspective
“The quality of presentations was genuinely impressive. It’s clear there’s a strong pipeline of talent coming through, and the ability to explain complex ideas so clearly will be a real advantage in their careers. Competitions like this play an important role in building confidence and helping engineers develop skills that are just as important as their technical knowledge.”
Events like the Speak Out for Engineering South Yorkshire Heat play an important role in developing future talent within the industry. They help bridge the gap between technical ability and real world communication skills, which are essential for long term career progression.
It was a great event to be part of, and we look forward to continuing our support for initiatives that champion engineering talent across South Yorkshire.
