The best online resources for Learning & Development

As you progress through your career, you may find that various employers are very keen on sending you on training courses. Some of these will be internal and others will involve an external supplier.

You might attend such courses 2 or 3 times a year – but what about the rest of the time? As with many things, learning and development can be greatly enhanced by a ‘little and often’ approach.

Here, we outline some tools that you can easily weave into your week but that are sure to aid your professional development…

TED talks

TED talks are great – there are so many subject matters covering all industries and are so useful especially if what you are looking for is a boost in motivation, creativity or simply to seek a new way of thinking.

Mindtools boasts ‘essential skills for an excellent career’. We couldn’t agree more. With 25k yearly users, this site is an essential tool for many with a successful career in mind. Beginning with a simple diagnostic tool, the site even helps to identify areas for development.

Business Balls

Ok, so Business Balls might not look as fancy as some of the other websites we’ve mentioned here but what it lacks in style it definitely makes up for in substance. Offering career advice, training and development in the form of very useful materials, innovative exercises, and many, many tools and templates you should definitely bookmark this one.

Our final ‘must visit’ page is one that will incur a cost to use the vast majority of the resources – although 10 day trials are often available. ‘Lynda’ is brought to us by Linkedin and with over 900 courses on business alone (plus almost 3000 on finance and over 1800 on HR matters) there’s sure to be something for everyone.
